CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY
A HANDS-ON PRACTICE THAT FOLLOWING YOUR INNER WISDOM
My Craniosacral Therapy practice is informed by the Upledger Craniosacral Therapy approach, which recognises the body’s innate capacity for self-regulation when supported in a safe and responsive environment.
Using gentle, non-invasive touch, I assess and support the craniosacral system — including the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. This approach works with the body’s natural rhythms and allows areas of restriction or imbalance to be met with sensitivity and care.
Sessions are conducted in a calm, supportive setting and are tailored to the individual’s needs on the day. Craniosacral Therapy may be offered as a standalone treatment or integrated alongside other manual therapy approaches to support overall wellbeing.
about CST
-
While every person’s experience is unique, CST is commonly sought by people who are looking for supportive care around:
Headache and migraine intensity or frequency
Chronic neck, shoulder and back tension
Stress, overwhelm or nervous system dysregulation
Sleep difficulties and insomnia
Jaw tension / TMJ discomfort
Post-concussion symptoms and recovery
Fatigue and low energy states
Emotional holding from long-term stress or trauma
General wellbeing, resilience and rest
Many people also find Craniosacral Therapy deeply relaxing, even when not experiencing a specific symptom, as it can help reduce tension, support calmness and encourage a sense of grounded ease in the body
-
Craniosacral Therapy with Jen Chiu is delivered in a calm, supportive space in Battery Point / Eastern Shore, Hobart.
Sessions typically include:
A brief conversation to understand what brought you in and what you’d like support with
You resting fully clothed on a comfortable treatment table
Very light, attentive touch applied by the practitioner, tuned to your nervous system
Moments of stillness, breath awareness and gentle listening through the body
intra-oral technique with gloves on and consent by client
Many clients notice a deep sense of relaxation — some drift into a sleep-like state, others feel warmth or subtle movement, and some may experience emotional release. While experiences vary, most people feel calm, grounded, or more present by the end of the session. Improvements may continue unfolding over the next few days as your body integrates the work
-
The number of sessions recommended can vary from person to person, depending on your goals, the reasons you’re seeking support, and how your body responds over time. Some general guidelines:
Initial Support: Many people find benefit in the first session itself — a sense of calm, relief from discomfort, or deeper rest.
Short Series: For ongoing tension, stress or long-standing patterns, a short series of 3–5 sessions is often helpful to support integration and sustained change.
Chronic Conditions: Conditions that have developed over time may benefit from a tailored plan with additional sessions, with frequency adjusted based on how your system responds.
Maintenance & Wellbeing: Some clients choose occasional follow-up sessions (e.g., monthly or bi-monthly) to support ongoing regulation and stress resilience.
Because every person’s journey is unique, we always discuss a treatment plan that feels appropriate and paced for you.

Intra-oral (Mouth Work) Craniosacral Techniques
As part of Craniosacral Therapy, gentle facial and intra-oral techniques may be offered when appropriate and with your full consent. This work involves safe, light contact inside the mouth to support areas such as the jaw, hard palate, and surrounding soft tissues.
I am trained at Craniosacral Therapy Level 2, which includes treatment of intra-oral restrictions. These areas can hold patterns of tension following dental procedures, jaw strain, head or neck impacts, whiplash, or prolonged stress. Intra-oral work can help reduce long-held compression and support greater ease through the head, neck, and cranial system.
This approach is always optional, clearly explained beforehand, and guided by your comfort and readiness. Many people are surprised by how much relief is felt once subtle pressure they have adapted to over time begins to soften.
In some cases, Craniosacral Therapy — including facial and intra-oral techniques — may support people experiencing:
— jaw tension or facial discomfort
— dental or orthodontic history
— head or neck strain
— migraines or headaches
— nervous system stress or fatigue
— pre- or post-surgical recovery
— post-birth recovery for parent and baby
— emotional holding/ unspoken words
Sessions remain gentle, respectful, and responsive, allowing the body to reorganise at its own pace..
Somato emotional release
SomatoEmotional Release (SER) is a gentle therapeutic process that supports the body and nervous system to release the lingering effects of unresolved experiences or trauma with meaningful dialogue and image. Sometimes, what we go through in life isn’t fully processed at the time — instead of dissipating, those physical and emotional responses can remain held within the tissues of the body.
In CranioSacral Therapy, we recognize that the body has an innate intelligence/wisdom which guide the practitioner to support the journey.
SER may naturally arise during a session when the body feels safe enough to soften its protective patterns and begin letting go of what it no longer needs to hold. This can include physical tension, emotional charge, or old stress responses that are still influencing present-day well-being.
Over time, these held patterns — sometimes described as “energy cysts” — can contribute to pain, restriction, fatigue, or emotional overwhelm. SER offers a compassionate and respectful way for the body to gently unwind these layers, without force.
